Shannon Boxx Speaker Biography
3x Olympic Gold Medalist, World Cup Champion, Sports Analyst, Mentor, and Lupus Advocate
Shannon Boxx is a retired American Soccer player who played for the University of Notre Dame where she helped the Fighting Irish win the school’s first NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship. She was named to the All Big East team 3 years in a row and is tied for the most soccer games played for Notre Dame at 101 games. She is an on-air analyst for US Women’s Soccer games on Turner Sports and in 2022 founded a personal development company, which helps to support and empower female athletes to redefine who they are beyond their sport. She is a founding investor in Angel City FC, the first female-owned soccer team in history.
Women’s United Soccer Association
In 2001 Women’s United Soccer Association began play and Shannon Boxx was drafted by the Dan Diego Spirit. In her first season, she started every game and was named to the All-WUSA team. In 2002 she was sent to the New York Power where she again started every game and was named to the 2003 All-WUSA squad.
Women’s World Cup Soccer
Shannon was named to the World Cup Team and was the first American woman to score three goals in her first three matches with the national team. She went on to win a gold medal at the 2004 Olympics. In 2007, she was named to the U.S. 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup team and won gold at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. Shannon played her last Women’s World Cup where the U.S. went on to win gold at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Empowering Teams
Shannon was an executive mentor for Wolfpack Endeavor from 2019-2021, which focused on empowering women to reinvent work through elite teams of female leaders and is now currently a Co-founder of Ethos Mentality, which helps to support and empower athletes redefine who they really are beyond sport. She is a Co-founder and Community Impact Leader for a youth soccer academy that is committed to developing and preserving the game for young female athletes.
Lupus Advocate
Boxx was diagnosed with lupus in 2007 when she was 30 years old and went public with her diagnosis shortly before the 2012 London Olympics at which she won gold with the United States team. She serves on the Regional Council, as an advocate, a spokesperson, and a keynote speaker for the Lupus Foundation of America in the Pacific Northwest.
Honors and Awards
Boxx, in recognition of her achievements and her career was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in May of 2022 and was most recently honored with the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award in 2024.
Keynote Speaker
She has now retired from profession play, but in partnership with her close friend Jen Croneberger has established Ethos Mentality Group. Shannon and Jen created Ethos Mentality Group for professional athletes to:
