In 1992, Winston Scott began his distinguished NASA career as an astronaut. He served as a mission specialist on two pivotal missions. The first was STS-72 Endeavour in 1996. The second was STS-87 Columbia in 1997. The Endeavour mission was a groundbreaking nine-day excursion. The crew retrieved the Space Flyer Unit satellite. They also deployed and retrieved the OAST-Flyer satellite. Furthermore, they conducted two spacewalks. These spacewalks evaluated techniques for the International Space Station assembly. During this mission, this astronaut speaker logged over 214 hours in space. In 1997, the STS-87 Columbia flight followed. It featured the challenging manual capture of a Spartan satellite. US Navy
Before his NASA career, Scott achieved a distinguished record in the U.S. Navy. He served as a Captain. His roles included Director of the Product Support (Engineering) Department. This was from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. Currently, he is Vice President and Deputy General Manager at Jacobs Engineering. This is one of the world’s largest engineering contractors.
