Michael Moynihan is an author, educator and thought leader who has served in senior roles in business and government. Dr. Michael Moynihan is currently the CEO of a consultancy that uses machine learning, artificial intelligence, and big data to solve complex problems. Previously he served as the Chief Economist for New York City’s Economic Development Corporation where he plays an active role in planning and carrying out the city’s economic development strategy.
Professor
Dr. Moynihan has been a member of the faculties of New York University and Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs where he taught urban economics. Dr. Moynihan has been a fellow of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Robert C. Seamans Fellow in Technology and Public Policy at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and the William Bowen Merit Fellow at Princeton University. His doctoral dissertation was on the effect of energy prices on sprawl.
Electronic Commerce
From 1996 to 1999, he served in the Clinton Administration where he held the Internet portfolio and advised Secretaries Rubin and Summers as Senior Advisor for Electronic Commerce. While in the Clinton Administration, he led successful efforts to pass the Internet Tax Freedom Act, helped negotiate e-commerce agreements on payments, taxation and other issues with the EU and Japan and oversaw the e-commerce efforts of Treasury’s 140,000 employees. Prior to assuming the Internet portfolio, he advised Secretaries Rubin and Summers on a variety of other issues including managing debt crises, reforming the global financial architecture, balancing the budget and modernizing the IRS.
Clean Energy Expert
Dr. Moynihan founded the Clean Energy Initiative and Electricity 2.0 program at the Washington think tank, NDN. Dr. Moynihan is author of the papers Electricity 2.0: Unlocking the Power of the Open Energy Network and Investing in Our Common Future: US Infrastructure.
Entrepreneur
In 1999, Moynihan founded the Internet video company, AlwaysonTV, the Internet’s first all video portal. The company’s Personal Producer and Media Mogul software made it possible for individuals to broadcast their video to the world and create personal video channels for the first time in history. The Alwaysontv.com website aggregated a wide range of movies, movie trailers, news, entertainment and other video on its portal. AOTV introduced such Internet firsts as video classifieds, video personals and personal video channels. In 2002, AlwaysonTV announced the launch of Secure Vision, a secure, java-based video streaming protocol for the intelligence community.

Moynihan is the author of many books on management, business and travel topics including the critically acclaimed work, The Coming American Renaissance, where Moynihan dispels doom and gloom forecasts about the future of the United states and, marshalling a wealth of data, explains how and where an economic renaissance is underway. In Global Manager, Mr. Moynihan suggests how to train and recruit managers with international skills to run the various branches of a far-flung enterprise.
