John Feinstein Speaker Biography

Bestselling Author and Nationally Renowned
Sports Writer & Commentator

No one gets inside sports like journalist and author John Feinstein. As The Wall Street Journal says, “Mr. Feinstein has made a specialty of delving into the lives of a select group of players and drawing a portrait of a particular world. In this, he has no peer.”

Sporting News Radio

Listeners have always tuned in to hear reports and commentaries on events such as the NBA Finals, Wimbledon, the NFL playoffs, the MLB All-Star game and the U.S. Open golf championship from award-winning author John Feinstein. He has also contributed to The Washington Post and Sporting News Radio since 1992, AOL since 2000 and Golf Digest and Gold World since 2003.

The Washington Post

Feinstein began his career in 1977, writing about politics and sports for The Washington Post. After an 11-year stint, he left the Post and became a special contributor to Sports Illustrated from 1988-90, and National Sports Daily from 1990-91. He returned to the Post as a contributor the following year.

Books

Feinstein first gained national attention when his book, A Season on the Brink: A Year with Bob Knight and the Indiana Hoosiers, topped The New York Times bestseller list for 16 consecutive weeks, from January – August 1987. Feinstein had unusually close contact with Knight, one of the most prominent personalities in the world of sports, during the 1985-86 college basketball season. A Season on the Brink was the best selling sports book until it was surpassed by Feinstein’s A Good Walk Spoiled, which spent six weeks as The New York Times bestseller and a total of 36 weeks on the list and was published in paperback in June 2005. Feinstein has written other best selling books including Caddy for Life, Open, A Civil War, The Last Amateurs, and Last Shot.

Feinstein received his bachelor’s degree from Duke University in Durham, N.C. Now he lives in Potomac, Maryland and Shelter Island, New York, with his wife, son, and daughter.
