Renowned Golf Instructor
Using the insights, inspirations and proven principles he has applied to his coaching of legendary players such as Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara, Hank Haney reveals clear and passionate guidelines on reaching and achieving success.
Teacher of the Year
Haney developed his desire to teach while majoring in education at Tulsa University, where he graduated in 1977. In the years since, Haney has enthusiastically set out to be a great instructor of the golf swing. He has steadily built a reputation as an instructor, not only to the club level player, but also with more than 200 Tour Pros from the PGA, LPGA, and European, Japanese, and Asian tours. Haney has been recognized as one of the top golf instructor and coaches in the country early in his career, being honoring in 1993 as the National PGA Teacher of the Year. He received Teacher of the Year awards for the North Texas Section of the PGA each year from 1989 to 1993.
Pro Golf Career
Haney began his career studying under well-known pros such as Jim Hardy and John Jacobs. After working as either the Head Pro, Director of Instruction or Director of Golf at several large golf operations such as the PGA West in La Quinta, California, Stonebridge Golf and Country Club in Dallas, Texas, Sweetwater Country Club in Houston, Texas, and Pinehurst Golf Schools in North Carolina, Haney opened his own golf instruction center in 1991. He also operates five teaching facilities in the Dallas, Texas area.
Hank Haney Golf Ranch
The Hank Haney Golf Ranch, located in McKinney, Texas is a complete teaching and practice facility. Haney and Pete Dye designed and built a 9-hole golf course on land, which was once a horse ranch. In addition, the Ranch features a video teaching center, covered hitting stalls, a 175-yard grass tee, and a short game area with several approaches.
Correct Swing Plane
Haney works with his students to develop an accurate plan to improve the flight of their golf ball. By giving cause and effect analogies, coupled with physical hands on examples, the student and instructor can create a relationship that will produce positive results. The correct swing plane is the basis of Haney’s philosophy: to accommodate any golfer with the desire to improve. Never is this more evident than in the events that Haney and his staff have designed for corporate and private events.
A member of the advisory staff for Golf Digest magazine, Haney has been featured on the cover numerous times and is on the Teaching Professional Pro Panel. He is also on the advisory staff of the Acushnet Golf Company (Titleist Golf Division), Adams Golf and the PGA National Teaching Committee.
He has also written articles for numerous publications including Golf Digest, Golf Illustrated Magazine and The Dallas Morning News. Haney has an instructional video, Golf for Winners, a collaboration with PGA tour member and top 10 all time PGA TOUR money winner Mark O’Meara, which is sold in the U.S., Canada, Japan, and Australia. In 1999, Haney published his first book entitled, The Only Golf Lesson You’ll Ever Need. He released his second book, Hank Haney’s Essentials of the Swing: A 7-Point Plan for Building a Better Swing and Shaping Your Shots, in 2009. Hank’s latest book, The Big Miss: My Years Coaching Tiger Woods, was published in 2013.
The Golf Channel
In 2009, he was part of The Haney Project on the Golf Channel, a show following Haney’s attempt at fixing NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley’s unusual swing. In Spring 2010, Haney took on a new student, TV’s Ray Romano, on the show’s second season of transforming golf swings.
