While titles on working women and dual-income families abound, this book delves into the emerging trend of women as primary financial providers. According to psychotherapist Pappenheim and journalist Graves, this situation arises in one out of three marriages. Among the 100 men and women they interviewed are couples who planned for the woman to be the primary breadwinner as well as those who reached the situation by default (i.e., through layoffs). Instead of passing judgment, the authors offer engaging vignettes from the interviewees illustrating attitudes and behaviors that nurture or tear down this complex relationship.
